At our annual meeting September 26 and 27 Ramkota in Pierre South Dakota, D-Ware, Inc. introduced our sign management work and research. After analyzing feedback and assessing needs of our current clients, Max Durgin, Jerry Durgin, and Ted Macy started development of a new Sign Management System that is independent of the current Cost Accounting System. The system utilizes current Microsoft development products and state of the art programming techniques. The name of the Sign Management System is “Sign Manager Pro.” Information on the Sign Manger Pro can soon be viewed at http://signmgr.com .
We introduced a preliminary version of Sign Manger Pro at D-Ware’s vendor display, October 26 and October 27 at the26th Regional Local Road Conference, Rapid City South Dakota. The product was demonstrated and critiqued by Kristi Goehring, our signing and sign retroreflectivity expert. Kristi will continue to work with us on program development. Sign Manger Pro was well received by the public with constructive comments and suggestions. Concerns were expressed on the process of “how to start and implement” a sign management system. To ease your fears and simplify implementation, D-Ware
has taken the following steps:
1. We created the Sign Manger Pro software, an easy to use standalone professional sign
management system.
2. We Studied the MUTCD requirements and consulted with a professional civil engineer to make sure we have collected all necessary data.
3. We created a Sign Management Boot Camp. Ted Macy, our new team member, will provide an onsite training package to assist in implementing a sign management program.
Renee Koller Railsback, Colorado LTAP director, reinforced the need for Sign Manager Pro in an excellent Sign Retro reflectivity presentation. Renee made it clear that MUTCD requirements were not going away. Reference was made to the website http://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/. In the yellow box, a link will take the user to ‘PROPOSED REVISION OF THE 2009 MUTCD – COMPLIANCE DATES (TABLE I-20). The Table I-2, Target Compliance Dates established by the FHWA states “implementation and continued use of an assessment or management method that is designed to maintain regulatory and warning sign retroreflectivity at or above the established minimum levels” be in compliance 2 years from the effective date of this revision of the 2009 MUTCD.
